Hygienic Centrifugal Pumps
Self Priming & Air Handling Centrifugal Pumps
SCP and CRP pumps are ideally suited as self priming and air handling pumps in the food and processing industries. Two typical applications are CIP return and tanker unloading.
Self Priming and Air Handling Pumps up to 2.2 KW - SCP66 Range
The Packo SCP66 is a range of air handling and self priming centrifugal pumps. They are ideally suited as a CIP return pump to transfer a mixture of cleaning fluid and air. This range is limited to 30 m³/h / 130 US.GPM - 18 m / 60 ft - 2.2 kW / 3 HP.
Technical Specification
The SCP66 is based on the FP66 range with a different pump casing which makes the pump suitable for air handling and self priming.
Working Principle
- For good priming, a sufficient volume of liquid should be available in the casing.
- Liquid and air are sucked from the inlet chamber and mixed by the impeller. The mixture leaves the volute and is separated. The air leaves the pump through the outlet while the liquid is re-circulated. This liquid is mixed again with air from the inlet chamber. This cycle continues until all the air is removed from the suction line.
- From that moment, the pump starts functioning as a normal centrifugal pump. When the pump is stopped, it will retain enough liquid to self-prime when next started.
Advantages
Compared to liquid ring pumps, SCP pumps have following advantages:
- Standardisation of components
- Large clearances allows impurities to pass through without causing wear
- The pump performance remains the same even after years of operation
- Lower NPSH-value
- Higher efficiency
- Flat head-flow curve
- The pump can run against closed valve without providing extra high pressure or absorbing more power
Field of Application
Numerous SCP66 pumps prove their reliability in many CIP-return applications worldwide while you also find them in other sanitary applications where its self priming and/or air handling capabilities are required.
The SCP66 range goes up to 30 m³/h / 130 US.GPM - 18 m / 60 ft - 2.2 kW / 3 HP.

Self Priming and Air Handling Pumps up to 11KW - SCP2 Range
The Packo SCP66 is a range of air handling and self priming centrifugal pumps. They are ideally suited as a CIP return pump to transfer a mixture of cleaning fluid and air. This range goes up to 100 m³/h / 440 US.GPM - 45 m / 150 ft - 11 kW / 15 HP.
Technical Specification
The SCP2 is based on the FP2 range with a different pump casing which makes the pump suitable for air handling and self priming.

Air Handling Scavenge Pumps up to 22KW - CRP Range
The Packo CRP models are hygienic stainless steel air handling / scavenge pumps for the food / dairy / drinks industries. Designed to the strictest ( CIP / SIP ) cleanability standards, the CRP2 is the only centrifugal scavenge pump available on the market that can be supplied with EHEDG certification. Furthermore, the intelligent, modular construction incorporating standard components provides a very functional design.
The CRP range goes up to 140 m³/h / 615 US.GPM - 110 m / 360 ft - 22 kW / 30 HP.
Perfectly Cleanable Stainless Steel 316L Construction
- All wetted parts are stainless steel 316L or better
- Pump casings are made of thick cold-rolled plate: 100% non-porous and extremely smooth
- Impellers are investment cast and receive follow-up treatment
High Quality Electropolished Finish
All stainless steel parts in contact are electropolished as final surface treatment. This leads to an extremely low micro roughness with a highly increased resistance to adhesions, resulting in excellent ease of cleaning and the ultimate bacteriological purity.
Electropolishing also offers a highly improved corrosion resistance due to a higher percentage of the noble materials chromium and nickel at the surface.
Crevice-free design
The crevice-free design of all parts in contact - pump casing, back plate, impeller and seals - in combination with the optimal internal turbulence fully meets today's requirements for hygienic standards.
Functional design
Solid Construction
- Pump casing and backplate produced from material up to 22mm thick
- Heavy duty stainless steel motor adapters with large openings facilitate ease of visual inspection and removal of any leakage
- Stainless steel motor bases and shrouds (non-vibrating and noise-reducing design) are available
- Open impeller with following advantages: low NPSH-values, excellent air-handling, non-clogging, no axial stress on motor bearings, low pressure in seal cavity and extended seal life
- Volute pump case (series 160 & 200). Higher efficiency, less turbulence and gentle product handling.
Advantages
Compared to liquid ring pumps, CRP pumps have the following advantages:
- Standardisation of components
- Large clearances - impurities can pass without causing wear or damage to the impeller
- The pump performance remains the same even after years of operation
- Lower NPSH value
- Higher efficiency.
- Flat head-flow curve
- The pump can run against closed valve
- Sanitary design
- Possibility to reduce the impeller diameter
- Low noise level
- Lower price
Field of Application
- The Packo CRP pumps are mainly used in the food and processing industries
- Typical applications are as a CIP return / scavenge pump and for the emptying of tanks / vehicles of food products such as milk, egg, soya, beer, wort, wine, fruit juices, soft-drinks, alcohol, yeast, starch, vegetable and ethereal oils, sugar solutions, etc.
The CRP range goes up to 140 m³/h / 615 US.GPM - 110 m / 360 ft - 22 kW / 30 hp.
